*This program does not require approval from the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. As such, PTIRU did not review this program. Graduating from this program does not make you eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.

HSW (Home Support Worker)

This accelerated four-week certificate program equips students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary to offer personal assistance and support services in a variety of care environments, including residential homes, community care settings, and long-term care facilities. Participants will gain hands-on experience and training in areas such as client hygiene, mobility assistance, communication, and ethical caregiving practices.

Career Opportunities: Home Support Worker, Personal Care Aide, Elderly Companion, Private Live-in/Live-out Caregiver

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this program, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Deliver safe and appropriate personal hygiene and grooming support.
  • Assist clients with mobility while applying safe body mechanics.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients and their families.
  • Apply infection control measures and follow safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate awareness of professional, ethical, and legal responsibilities.
  • Address both physical and emotional needs of clients.

There are no scheduled academic breaks for this program.

Meet the minimum level of English language proficiency from one of the following:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: minimum overall score of 5.5;
  • Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test: overall score of 40 or higher;
  • Duolingo English Test: overall score of 95 or higher;
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) IBT: minimum overall score of 46;
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 56 overall with no band less than 50
